Pvt Jonas W. Edwards was my great-grandfather, an 18 year-old farmer from Otter's Creek Township in Edgecombe County, NC. He enlisted on Jan. 27, 1862, and was assigned to Company E, the Edgecombe boys. He was joined by his older brother, Elbert, in April. Pvt Jonas W Edwards was wounded at the second battle of Drewry's Bluff, VA (May 16, 1864), and returned to duty on Aug. 8, 1864. He was with Company E (along with his brother Elbert, until Elbert was captured) during the battles generally known as the siege of Petersburg. He was with Company E when it arrived at (and went past) Appomattox Courthouse. They were several miles down the road, fighting, when they received the message to return to Appomattox; a truce had been signed. He was paroled along with the rest of the company, on April 9, 1865, and allowed to walk back home to Edgecombe County, NC.

James was born 10 Nov 1836 in Anson Co. NC. He was a reluctant soldier. He was conscripted at age 30 on 24 Sep 1862. He went awol before he arrived at the camp of instruction. He was arrested and brought back to his unit. He has 20 cards in his archival file. He is sick in the hospital more than once and was given a leave of indulgence from which he did not return. Once again he is arrested and returned to his unit. Surprisingly he was with his unit at the end of the war. It appears that he was one of those soldiers that was more trouble than he was worth. He died 25 Dec 1924. He is buried at Hopewell Methodist Ch. in Peachland, Anson Co. NC. We are related by a distant marriage.

William Wilson Taylor
- Private
William was born 25 Aug 1840 in the Burnsville Township, Anson Co. NC. he enlisted in Co K 43rd Regiment NC Infantry on 15 May 1862 another source gives date of 25 Feb 1862. I suspect 15 May was date of muster at camp Davis. All of his CMR's have him present for duty. The CMR for Sept /Oct 1864 has his home on wounded furlough. His family history states he suffered a gun shot wound to the chest. No date of injury and the numerous battles at the time gives no clue as to the action he was wounded in. He was involved in many major battles including Gettysburg. The 43rd was assigned at different times to General Junius Daniels, Robert F Hoke, & Bryan Grime's Brigade. He was the Father in Law of my 4th cousin 3 x removed Sophronia Ellen Beachum. They are buried in Hopewell Methodist Ch. Peachland, Anson Co. NC

Charles Edward Tucker

Charles was born 17 Oct 1841 in Burnsville Township, Anson Co. NC. he was 20 years old when he enlisted 25 Feb 1862. Enlisted by Col Kenan for the war. He has 23 cards in his archival file. He mustered at Camp Davis 15 May 1862. Feb 1863 he is given extra duty as Teamster for the Brigade. Dec 1863 he is assigned as an Ambulance driver for the brigade.
25 July 1864 he is wounded by gun fire and sent on wounded furlough. He is returned to duty 22 Aug 1864. Given the date of wound he was probably in the fight at Snickers Gap aka Cool Springs. Assigned to Generals, Junius Daniels, Robert F Hoke & Brian Grimes Brigade. He saw action at Seven days Battle, Gettysburg, Plymouth, Drewry's Bluff, Malvern Hill and was in the last fight around the Appomattox Court House. Note CMR makes reference to duty in the 53rd NC Inf. Regiment.. I have not looked into that area. We are related by a distant marriage.
